Excavator Mounted Brush Shredder

The Brush Hound Excavator Mounted Brush Shredder safely cuts and mulches small trees, grass, and brush. The Brush Hound Flail Blade Cutting Head turns any excavator or backhoe into a long reach boom mower. Three widths are available, 30 inch, 40 inch and 50 inch working width cutter heads. The large 2 pound reversible, spiral mounted blades will cut and mulch trees and limbs up to 4 inches in diameter on the model 30 EX and 40EX, 6 inches in diameter on the model 40EX-HD, and up to 8 inches in diameter on the model 50EX-HD. Excavators under 16,000 lbs. in weight and with hydraulic system pressures with a relief valve at 3400 psi should use the 30EX or 30EX-HD models. These units use a hydraulic gear type motor with a maximum pressure capacity of 3400 psi.. Excavators larger than 16,000 lbs. and with a relief valve pressure above 3400 psi should us the 40EX, 40EX-HD or 50EX-HD models with a higher capacity piston type motor with a maximum pressure capacity of 5000 psi maximum.

  • Three widths are available - the 30 series model has a working with of 30 inches (overall cutting head width of 40 inches), 40 series models have a working width of 40 inches (overall width of 50 inches, 58 inches on the 40EX-HD), and the 50EX-HD model has a working width of 50 inches and a working width of 63 inches.


  • Model 30EX requires hydraulic flow of 8 gpm to give you a cutting capacity of 4 inches in diameter


  • The 30EX, and 30EX-HD models use a gear type hydrualic motor with a maximum relief pressure of 3400 psi, should used on systems with a relief valve pressure of 3400 psi or less. For excavators with relief pressures, the models 40EX, 40EX-HD, and 50EX-HD us piston type motors and allow for presures up to 5000 psi.


  • Model 40EX requires hydraulic flow of 13 gpm to give you a cutting capacity of 4 inches in diameter, model 40Extreme requires 24 gpm to give you a 6 inch diameter cutting capacity.


  • Model 50EX-HD requires 35 gpm at up 4000-5000 psi to give you a cutting capacity of 8 inches.

  • The cutting head on the model 30EX uses 18 of the reversible 2.5 lb. standard style flail knives (9 connection points on rotor with a left and right facing knife), this unit has a 4 inch diameter cutting capacity


  • The cutting head on the model 30EX-HD mulching head uses what is called a tripple hammer knife which is 2 of the standard knives at the connection point, plus a straight knive in between, the tripple hammer knives give you smaller wood chips and longer knife life, the tripple hammer knive option adds 170 lbs. (extra knife weight and heavier rotor weight) versus the model 30EX, and requires 20 percent more horsepower. This unit has a 4 inch diameter cutting capacity.


  • The cutting head on the model 40EX uses what is called the Hammerhead rotor which features twelve, 2.75 lb. solid one piece shredding flails, this unit has a 4 inch diameter cutting capacity


  • The cutting head on the Model 40EX-HD uses the tripple hammer knives (12 left, 12 right facing and one straight knive at 12 connection points), this unit has a 6 inch diameter cutting capacity


  • The cutting head on the Model 50HD now has 15 new style one piece hardfaced hammer flails weighing 5.2 lbs. each, this unit has a 6 inch continual cutting capacity (8 inch intermittently)


  • Universal bolt on excavator bucket style mount, high strength welded steel unitized structure using grade 8 attachment bolts with wear washers, and a wire proof hardened cutter shaft protectors

  • The standard EX models have a 2 piece knife (a left and right piece). These two pieces make up one complete knife.


  • For the 30EX brush cutter, it has 9 attachment points on the rotor, so order 18 halves (18 CD-2500 knives) for a complete knife set on the 30EX.


  • The 40 EX has 12 attachment point so order 24 CD-2500 knives for a complete knife set on the 40EX


  • Model CD-2500: 2 lb. replacement knife for all models above - Price is $11.66 each plus UPS shipping**


  • The HD models us a "Triple Hammer Knife" and also use a center straight blade between these two pieces (the CD2500 knives). To replace the complete knife on the HD models, you will order the number of CD2500s you need, along with 9 straight blades part number CD-2500C on the 30EX-HD model, and 12 straight blades part number CD-2500C on the 40EX-HD model.


  • Model 50EXHD uses the triple hammer knives and requires 30 of the CD-2500 curved knives, and 15 of the CD-2500C


  • Part number CD-2500C is $11.73 each plus shipping** for the straight blade.


  • The HD models again have what is called the "Triple Hammer Knives" which means that at each point (each flail knife) you have a CD-2500C in the center of the two CD-2500s.


  • You can change over and use only a standard CD-2500 knife set on the HD models, if you change all knives to this configuration (otherwise the rotor will be unbalanced and you will cause excessive wear on the drum and bearings). YOU SHOULD NOT HOWEVER USE THE TRIPLE HAMMER KNIVES (CD-2500 + CD-2500C) ON THE STANDARD EX MODELS.
