Tractor Mounted Rotary Drum Type Land Clearers - Crushers

The Meri Crusher is a front or rear mounted rotary crusher (mounts on either front or rear three point hitches) that is used for land clearing and surface clearing, stump grinding (small stumps), and asphault grinding/removal. Hard metal cutters are mounted on a rotating drum to crush leftovers from land clearing including branches and small stumps.

When clearing heavily forested areas, the Meri Crusher works well on heavy undergrowth to clear a path. The smaller teeth of the Meri Crusher and slower drum speed work best on heavy undergrown and weeds. It should only be used on the smallest stumps and downed limbs. The Meri Crusher is also ideal for digging up and clearing the land of heavy vegetation for use in gardening and landscaping, crushing of old fruit and berry trees at orchards, reclaiming over grown dormant farm land, and soil preparation for planting,and to prepare pathways and roadways, ski tracks, jogging paths, and forest roads for example.

Also use the Meri Crusher for prepairing of anti-fire lanes and in road preparation to resurface by crushing pre-existing asphalt. The Meri Crushers will grind up most things in its path, including small stumps and small roots and branches, and is great for tearing up ice on dirt roads smoothing and breaking up frozen soil, gravel roads and asphalt. The larger versions of these versatile rotary crushers are especially suited for clearing paths in forest areas, and all units have an available optional felling frame to push standing trees over so you can then drive over and shred them. This is a multi-use tool for a variety of applications. These units are designed to be mounted on larger tractors, approximately 100 hp or more is recommended. On the smallest models for light applications, such as turning weeds under, you may be able to operate these with your skid steer loader if you have a high flow model, but at least 75 hp will be required. It is better to use a large tractor and power these by the tractor's pto so you can get the power you need to run these.

• There are several brands of crushers available, the Meri Crusher is probably the most versatile and suited to the most varied number of applications. The Meri Crushers use relatively light weight cutting drums, and a larger number of smaller cutters (making it perfect for also re-grinding asphalt). A horizontal cutting bar with very little space between the tip of the cutter and the bar, makes it possible to shred material into small chips or pulverize thinly. The Meri Crusher will also work in forested areas for clean up of under growth and small stumps and fallen branches, but is best used for leveling and turning over all the undergrowth to reclaim the area for replanting or making a road or path. Churn vegetation and smooth the ground and go as deep as 10 inches.
• For rough demolition of large stumps and trees, there are other crushers on the market that use a larger, heavier drum, making them faster for grinding when doing rough clean-up. The Meri-Crusher's smaller drum also turns at a slower rpm; while this is a dis-advantage compared to the other machines for rough demolition, the Merri-Crusher has a decided advantage when you want a fully prepared area with the material ground finer, and when you want to use it for special applications such as removing ice from walkways and roadways, and when you want to grind asphalt on a road surface.
• Another advantage the of the Meri Crusher is the ability to go between 8 and 10 inches below ground (depending upon the model), which is superior to other mulchers









• The units listed have are DT models (double safety clutch models) and have two gear boxes and clutches and are safe for applications of 200 hp. and greater.


• These crushers require a lot of hp, so the preferred mounting is on the front or rear of a large agricultural tractor up to 200 hp for the B2150 transmission models or up through 300 hp on the B2200 transmissions.


• Safety Clutches - the standard safety clutch on these units is the Bondioli FT-44 Friction safety clutch which is efficient in most applications, and will prevent driveline and gear box damage when you have a spike in torque on the driveline components caused by abruptly hitting an object that won't break up for example, or gradually overloading the clutch by increasing your forward speed for example.


• If the user forsees the crusher being used continually under the harshest conditions, requiring maximum tractor output all the time, then the optional POC-2400 pressure operated safety clutch shown below should be considered.


• Similar to an automotive disk brake, The POC-2400 safety clutch is designed for cutting down torque peaks on power transmision lines (the gearbox and pto shaft). This clutch is more efficient under the heaviest torque requirements because there is no loss in torque when the disks in the safety clutch slide. The pressure on the clutch disk can be increased by adjustment with a grease gun; increasing the volume of grease by filling the unit, increases the clutch pressure, thus allowing drive train protection and the maximum available torque to drive the implement.

The POC-2400 pressure operated safety clutch is optional and listed below.

• Some land clearing or land preparation jobs require less tractor horse power than other jobs such as: general land clearing 75 hp to 300 hp; prunings and vineyard removals 75-150; prunings at nut growers 75-120; utility and fire lane maintenance 80-180; brush and limb removal 90-180; stump grinding 80 and above; breaking and pulverizing of hard ground 90-300; ground preparation at cotton farms and potatoe and vegetable farms, and turf farms 120-300. Many jobs can be done with the B2150 transmission models and a tractor up through 200 hp; breaking up and pulverizing a lot of hard packed ground would require the larger B2200 transmission model, which can accomodate a tractor up through 300 hp.
