The Wikco Ankle Machine

The Wikco Ankle Machine is an isokinetic ankle exerciser that can be used for general ankle strengthening and for rehabiliation of ankle injuries. Regular use of the Wikco Ankle Machine will strengthen the muscles of the ankle, helping to stabilize the joint and increase cutting ability and jumping ability; strengthening the ankle will also help prevent injuries for athletes and non-athletes alike.

Model 200 Wikco Ankle Machine

The Wikco Ankle Machine is also the perfect tool strengthening the ankle during rehabilitation of an injury. The fully adjustable, smooth hydraulic resistance produced by the 4 hydraulic cylinders, eliminates unrestrained force that you would have on a weight plate type apparatus. The elimination of the unrestrained force reduces strain on the injury during therapy, making the Wikco Ankle Machine a much better rehabilitation device and exercise machine than free weights or universal type machines; making it one of the best ankle exercise machines for both strengthening the ankle for increased athletic performance and for rehabilitation.

  • Features/Specifications

  • Resistance supplied by adjustable hydraulic cylinders, and can be adjusted in seconds by turning the collar on the top of the cylinder, there are twelve resistance settings

  • In addition to resistance changes by changing resistance levels, increasing the velocity of the footplate at the same resistance level also increases the resistance supplied by the cylinder (reducing velocity at the same resistance level reduces resistance) giving you virtually an infinite resistance range between the lowest and highest resistance settings. At setting 1, at a velocity of 30 to 60 degrees per second (a relatively slow velocity that would be used during rehabilitation) the resistance is approximately 2-3 ft. lbs.. On the highest setting (setting 12), resistance at a higher speed of 90 degrees per second (approximate speed most people would achieve when excercising for increased strength) the resistance is 150 ft. lbs.. If you compress the cylinders harder (that is work the cylinder faster) you will get even higher resistance levels.

  • The safe hydraulic system allows for a large variance in the resistance from settings 1 to 12, and because of the lack of unrestrained force (the characteristic of hydraulic resistance) the Wikco Ankle Machine is one of the safest and most effective devices for ankle injury rehabilitation, and for general ankle strengthening for increasing athletic performance.

  • The Wikco Ankle Machine is easy to setup and use, an adjustable heel cup easily adjusts for different size shoes

  • The two foot straps have velcro closures and are easy to adjust and secure

  • Lockout mechanisms on the footplate allow you to lock out either plane of movement so you can do isolation movements, which can be very helpful when you are rehabilitating an injury

  • Do all functional movements including: plantar flexion, dorsiflexion, inversion, and eversion

  • Also do combination movements such as plantar flexion inversion, dorsiflexion eversion

  • Total footplate movement in each direction is approximately 45 degrees, remember - if you do the movement correctly you will be able to get 30 to 40 degrees on dorsiflexion and plantarflexion depending upon your flexibility, on inversion and eversion you can swing your leg and move the footplate this far, but doing the movement correctly by holding your leg in place to eliminate lateral leg movement, will limit your maximum range of motion of the ankle joint for inversion and eversion to the joint's normal range of 10-15 degrees.

  • The Wikco Ankle Machine is currently being used many hospitals, physical therapy clinics, colleges, pro sports teams and high schools across the country

  • The Wikco Ankle Machine features all steel construction and requires very little maintenance

  • The Wikco Ankle Machine comes standard with two weight holder accessories that clip over the front and back legs of the machine (as shown in the photo in the second row on the right below) and allow you to place weight plates on the holders to help weigh the machine down when exercising with high resistance; preventing the machine from lifting up helps the athlete do the exercise in proper form for the best results, even when using the highest resistance levels.
