Series 3 Kinghitter Post Driver

The Series 3 Post Driver was developed with contractors, farmers, and ranchers in mind. The Series III model drives up to 12 inch diameter posts and drives up to 4,000 posts per week. Both the series 2 and 3 post drivers have a broad range of accessories available including: a safety guard, rock spike extractor, rock spike extractor post cap, rock spike combo auger unit, pilot auger, top link extension bracket, T post holder and 2 7/8 inch oil pipe holder.

Kinghitter Series 3 Post Driver
Forward And Backward And Side To Side Angling

The King Hitter Post Drivers are some of the most versatile units available. They work in all types of soil, even solid limestone rock because they have available options on the series 2 and 3 such as pilot hole augers and rock spike kit augers. The Rock Spike kit on the series 2 and 3 for example, has enough raw power to drive through 18 inches of frozen ground, 6 inches of solid concrete, broken rock, and even some types of shelf rock. The Pilot Auger or Combo Unit easily drills pilot holes in Limestone, Sandstone, Ironsand, and solid heavy clay.

Connection to your tractor's hydraulic system is easier on the Kinghitter models as the units connect to the pressure line and presurized return line of your auxillary hydraulic outlet. The hammer weight gets its force by free fall of the weight. To operate the driver, pull on the lever on on the valve of the post driver to raise the hammer, and then release the lever into the neutral position to drop the hammer.

  • If you have rocky, stony ground you will need to purchase a Rock Spike kit accessory (for series 2 and 3)


  • If you have close density pug clay, limestone, or hard pan, you will need to purchase an Pilot Auger attachment. The auger will drill a pilot hole with up to 550 lbs. of down pressure which will enable the post to be driven into the ground easily.


  • If you have rocky ground and hard pan you can purchase the rock spike kit which is the rock spike and the pilot auger together as a combined unit


  • The post is driven in extremely firm because of what many call "Hydraulic Suction". As the post is driven into the ground, the ground immediately around the post is mechanically strengthened by a reduction in soil porosity and an increase in soil compaction, the surrounding ground pressure will secure the post up to sixteen times firmer than a similar bored and tampered post.

  • The optional 6 bank valve would be ordered with the optional pilot auger. The extra valves are needed to run the hydraulic motor on the auger. The Rock Spike is also available as an option on series II and III fence post drivers, but the optional bank valve is not needed to run just the rock spike option, just the auger option or auger/spike combo attachment.

  • The Rock Spike is used to drive a pilot hole in rocky soil. In most soils with rock, you can use the rock spikes and drive down through and fracture any rocks you find, and then drive the post in the ground. In this type of rocky soil you should be able to drive a much larger post than the pilot hole. In solid limestone, you will need to use the pilot auger kit; the pilot auger kit has 1000 lbs. of downforce, and allows you to auger larger holes than the rock spike attachment. If you are driving posts in limestone, you may have to spike or auger a hole nearly the same size as the post being driven. In limestone, the largest size post you can drive may be limited by the largest size of pilot auger available, which in this case is 10 inches. You probably can't drive a 12 inch diameter post in limestone using a 10 inch diameter pilot auger. If you are in limestone you probably will drill a 10 inch pilot hole for example and set a 10 inch diameter post in the hole. Smaller posts in limestone may be able to be driven in with the driver if you either auger or use the rock spike to make a pilot hole an inch or two under the size of the post. Soil that just has rocks in it, and is a mix of soil and rocks, can require a pilot hole, and you would want to auger or spike a pilot hole, but the size can be several inches less than the size of the post to be driven usually in this type of soil, so you make sure the post drives in tight.
